Clinical Hypnosis - Non Medical

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring, altered state of consciousness rather like having a pleasant daydream. One of the nicest things about learning hypnosis is that you are released from limiting beliefs and able to connect to the part of yourself that is wise, serene and all-knowing.

The study of clinical hypnosis can be one of life’s most exciting and rewarding journeys.

Personal Discovery

Clinical hypnosis provides a science-based exploration of the way the mind works. It can bring new insights about the unconscious mind and even unlock the hidden potential and secrets of the subconscious.

For many people clinical hypnosis provides the answers they have been looking for, sometimes for most of their life. It is exciting, fun and can bring the sense of wonder back into the way you look at life.

General Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state with the profound ability to enhance learning and bring about change. This makes it an ideal tool both inside and outside the consulting room.

Hypnosis is increasingly used in the following areas with documented success :

  • sports training and coaching.
  • stress management and relaxation.
  • as part of corporate training.
  • performance anxiety.
  • resilience training.

Clinical Hypnotherapy

Clinical hypnotherapy is the combination of hypnosis with psychotherapy, to treat or manage medical, psychological, behavioural and lifestyle problems.

Research shows that using clinical hypnosis can enhance the effectiveness of treatment. It also helps patients to relax mentally and physically and in doing so allows them to release unhealthy beliefs or feelings, which may contribute to their problem thinking.

Patients describe the experience as enjoyable, report feeling satisfied with the treatment received  and often state that they would recommend it to others in a similar situation.

Interesting fact about hypnosis

What hypnosis means

  • James Braid who coined the term “hypnosis’ thought that he was working with a special state of sleep. He soon realised his mistake and tried to change the name. But the term “hypnosis” was so popular that it stuck.

Hypnosis is sleep

  • You may sometimes hear a hypnotherapist talk about sleep and waking up, but rest assured the state is one of absorption (not sleep). People experiencing clinical hypnosis will hear everything that happens around them. They may however, choose to only focus on what is relevant to them.

I will have amnesia

  • Hypnosis does not make you forget. You will remember what is important for you to remember. It is a little bit like waking up from a very nice daydream.

I will lose control

  • Being hypnotised is an altered state of consciousness. You remain in control, can reject ideas you don’t like and can walk out of a session at any time. Most people feel very comfortable and remain in the relaxed state throughout.

Hypnosis and my mind

  • Most people use a small part of their mental faculties. Hypnosis connects you to your emotions and feelings and memories. In this way, you are even more in control because hypnosis naturally connects you with a much more complete (bigger) sense of your true self.

Most people describe the experience as connecting with something they have been looking for their whole life but did not know how to put into words.
